5 new ideas for using cling film
5 new ideas for using cling film

Food wrap comes in handy in the kitchen for more than just storing food. We have 5 ideas for using it for other purposes

1. Fruit
The ethylene gas produced by apples, cantaloupe melons, avocados and bananas helps ripen many other fruits. Don't like bananas that are too soft? Wrap the tail with food wrap, it blocks ethylene from escaping. On the other hand, the foil can also be used for ripening. For example, put hard peaches in the same bowl as avocados and wrap them in clingfilm. In this way, the ethylene will not evaporate and the peaches will become much sweeter and softer after a few days.

2. Wine
We may not be understood by true wine lovers, but we don't like pouring an entire bottle of dry red down the sink! Unpleasant cork odor is not to be feared, and there is a solution for it: put the foil inside the glass, pour the wine and shake. Polyethylene absorbs the unpleasant taste and odor, so you can do without loss.

3. Pastry
Even edges on a pie are sometimes very difficult to achieve. If you press the dough gently under the foil, you will achieve those beautiful round edges. Be sure to make sure the dough is well rested, otherwise it will be too sticky.

4. Poached Egg
To make a classic poached egg, you don't have to pour liters of vinegar and water in an attempt to make the perfect funnel. We've got a little trick: spray a piece of clingfilm with oil, place it in a container and crack an egg into it. Tie a knot so that it turns out like a sack, which you and drop into boiling water. The result is a beautiful, even poached egg!

5. Ice cream
If, for completely inexplicable reasons, your ice cream has gotten too stale in the freezer, wrap it in cling film - that way it won't absorb other flavors for as long as possible.

What can be used instead of food film: the differences between food and stretch film
What can be used instead of food film: the differences between food and stretch film

Stretch film and food film are materials for packaging, which can be used for different products. They are used in stores, supermarkets, large warehouses, in production. But also the materials are widely used in the home. They have useful qualities - they can stretch, have high strength, have transparency, structure and base extend the life, freshness of many products.

Where food and stretch film is used
Food and stretch film are used in different areas, in the home. They are suitable for packaging different products.

Options for using food and stretch film:

Method of use: Packaging of products in food film
Features: It is recommended to use food grade film for this purpose. The material can be used to pack products as well as trays where food is stored. To carry out the packaging of products, they need to be wrapped on top of the film. Food can be wrapped in the material in chilled and hot form. If the heat is moderate, the film will not spoil

Method of use:Application of stretch film for long term storage
Features:Packaging materials can be used to store shoes that are worn seasonally. Stretch film can be used to create an excellent protection for winter or summer shoes. Packing from this material preserves quality, prevents dust, items will be able to retain their original appearance until the next season. Stretch film is often used to create packaging for many other products. It can be used for suitcases, toys, and inventory

Method of use:Food grade film for freezing foods
Features:Food grade film is often used for portion freezing of herbs, vegetables, berries. During strong cooling, the base is completely transparent. Thanks to this, it is possible to see what is available in the package. During freezing, the film retains elasticity and strength. The material is permeable to vapors, there is no accumulation of condensation inside

Method of use:Stretch film protection during renovations
Features: During cosmetic renovation work in rooms, large and heavy furniture is not removed, but it needs to be protected from paint and other contaminants. When repairing products can be covered with stretch film. To do this, it is necessary to wrap the furniture. And the main thing will not need to use additional fasteners, the canvas will hold due to the sticky layer

Main differences between food film and stretch film

Food film differs from stretch film in the degree of density, and there are also differences in the basis of raw materials. Food material can pass vapors, gases, so it is suitable for wrapping food products.

Stretch film has an impermeable base, it does not allow gases, vapors to pass through, but it has a high density and strength. Because of these differences, the use of the materials can have differences.

What kind of food packaging film should be used
It is recommended to use food film for food packaging, it should have a safe composition. The material should not emit harmful substances, toxins.

Among the main properties of the film for product packaging it is worth highlighting:
- High degree of stretching - from 70 to 300%. And after stretching, the original shape of the material should be restored;
- The base should be able to pass vapors, gases, this will help to preserve the freshness of products for a long time;
- Transparency. Thanks to this there will be visual access to the products;
- Resistance to electromagnetic waves, high and low temperatures. This allows you to use the film in microwave ovens, freezers and other conditions;
- Airtightness. This provides protection from bacteria, preserves the useful properties and freshness of products for a long time;
- Lack of odor;
- Resistance to acids, alkalis.

Is it possible to use stretch film for food?
Food stretch film can be used for food, it has a safe base, does not emit negative substances, has no extraneous odor. The difference between food stretch film and food stretch film is in the high stretchability of the web. A sticky coating can be applied on the surface, it provides high sealing of the package.

Technical stretch film is not intended for food products. It is produced from raw materials, may have an extraneous odor. If used for food packaging, it will become unfit for further consumption. If this film is stored for a long time, it will become impregnated with harmful substances and unpleasant odors.

How to replace food wrap at home
In domestic conditions, food film can be replaced by the following options:
- A cloth that is impregnated with beeswax. It can be used to wrap bread, cheese and other products. Suitable for wrapping containers and containers repeatedly;
- Glass containers. They can be used many times, safe for human health;
- Fabric wrapping. Rectangular or square shaped covers can be made from fabric. They can be washed after use;
- Waxed soy paper. This is an environmentally friendly material that is suitable for wrapping any products. Extends their shelf life.

Food film and stretch wrap are considered similar materials that have almost the same uses. But there are still differences, and they consist of different densities, as well as in the composition. However, these products can be safely used for packing different items, they can be used even during repairs to protect furniture and other products from dust, dirt. These are multifunctional materials that can be useful in domestic conditions.

Styrofoam for packaging
Styrofoam for packaging

Polyurethane foam is soft polyurethane foam (PU) in the form of elastic cellular foam with excellent insulating properties. The material is durable, excellent shock absorption, good heat retention and free flow of air.

Types and application of packing foam
Packing foam is mainly used as a shock-absorbing layer during transportation of fragile objects (dishes, glassware) and works of art, as well as protection of corners and surfaces of furniture from mechanical damage on the way.

 Small items are tightly wrapped with foam rubber, fixing it with adhesive tape.
 For packing large items, foam sheets are usually used whole.
 Shredded FPU is mixed with other fillers of boxes for moving.
Special chemical additives provide packaging FPU with antistatic properties, which allows it to be used for transportation of equipment that can accumulate static charge on the body.

Advantages of foam rubber for packaging
 - Easy to cut and glue.
-  Accepts any shape.
-  Does not tear when stretched.
-  Maintains its properties in the range of -40...+100 °C.
-  Not susceptible to mold and bacteria.
The high porosity of foam rubber allows you to use a much smaller volume of packing material for moving. However, after unpacking, it partially loses its stated properties due to prolonged significant compression.

How to choose foam for packing
Most often when moving, standard sheet foam with a thickness of 20-30 mm is used, when it is not reasonable to purchase a whole roll of packing foam. In addition, this thickness is considered optimal for each facet when packing large items, furniture.

Use of foam packaging after moving

After unpacking things in the new place, the pieces of foam packaging that have become redundant can be used as:

insulation, e.g. for old wooden windows;
 filling of armrests and backrests of chairs, armchairs, which are not characterized by heavy loads;
 softening upper flooring in upholstered furniture;
 stuffing of toys, poufs, beds for cats and dogs;
 inserts in sewing products;
 sponges and rollers for repair work.

The foam can be rolled into a tube and covered with fabric, turning it into a pillow roll. And it can be shredded into 2-4 cm cubes to make a pillow of any shape.

Sheets with a thickness of 3 cm are more universal. They can be used for making furniture, mattresses, noise and heat insulation for interior decoration. Foam sheets make excellent acoustic traps and sound-absorbing mats, which significantly reduce the noise level in the room.

How to remove scotch tape
How to remove scotch tape

Adhesive tape is a special product, which is also called Scotch tape. This is explained by the fact that this brand was the first to produce such products and supply them to the domestic market. The creators named the tape with the English word Scotch, which means "Scotchman".

In the last century in America, the Scots were considered stingy people, so when the first users began to complain about the small content of glue applied to cellophane, the manufacturer and decided to call his product Scotch. Then they began to apply more glue to the strips, and it became so much that because of it, nowadays many people puzzle over how to remove scotch marks from various surfaces.

Removing adhesive residue is extremely difficult, especially if you don't know some tricks. It is logical to assume that the ease of cleaning depends on the type of adhesive and the type of surfaces to which it was applied. Note that almost all types of tape are made with acrylic adhesive. This means that removal methods depend only on the type of materials that have contaminants on them.

Removing Scotch tape from plastic
In modern apartments, a huge number of plastic products are used: frames, household products, furnishings, toys for children, etc. To clean such surfaces from glue, it is required to assess the quality of the material itself. For expensive goods you can use more aggressive chemicals, while cheap products can be severely damaged by cleaning. It is worth considering the duration of contact, because it is extremely difficult to remove dirt from stale tape. But it is quite realistic, if you use simple improvised means:

vegetable oil;
an ordinary eraser;
gasoline or white spirit;
hair dryer.

Using oil
As strange as it may sound, the glue from scotch tape is perfectly eliminated with vegetable oil. The food product is mixed with the adhesive, which leads to a change in its structure. The oil should be poured directly on the contaminated areas or applied to a sponge and applied to the stains for 2-3 hours. As soon as there is a soaking of the adhesive mass, which has lost its properties, contaminants are easily removed with napkins, and it is desirable to wash the cleaned surfaces with a soap solution.

This method is considered very effective, and its only disadvantage is the impossibility of application to surfaces that are very difficult to clean from oil.

Eraser rubbing
School erasers work wonders as they can be used to remove traces of the most stale adhesive tapes. The dirt is easily removed like pencil marks, and then you just have to brush off the debris with a damp cloth. This method allows you to clean any plastic surfaces (electrical equipment, profiles of double-glazed windows, furniture, toys, etc.).

The main disadvantage of the method is the need to spend a lot of time and effort, especially when you need to clean a large area of surfaces.

Heating with a hair dryer
Stale adhesive residue is permanently embedded in plastic products, which is why you need to remove tape or protective films from newly purchased furniture and other goods as quickly as possible. But if due to the duration of contact and exposure to sunlight glue and plastic became one, you can heat the treated area with a simple hair dryer. Under the influence of heat there is a softening of the adhesive mass, so that in the future it can be easily removed by cleaning agents and detergents. Also, the use of a hair dryer is indispensable when removing traces of double-sided tape, because it has in its composition rubber and a number of foams, which are more difficult to remove because of the high density of the structure of molecules.

The only disadvantage of this method is the loss of decorative properties of some types of plastic due to the impact of increased temperature.

Removing tape from furniture
During the transportation of furniture disassembled elements are usually fixed with adhesive tape, and very often buyers fumble in attempts to clean the adhesive. Here you can use the same means that are used for cleaning plastic, but you need to take into account a number of differences:

Удаление скотча с мебели

Oil. With the help of vegetable oil remove glue stains from any polished or painted surfaces, except for areas of untreated wood, because the oil is quickly absorbed into it and will leave grease stains, from which it will be impossible to get rid of.
White spirit. Thanks to the gasoline solvent, you can remove glue residue from any furniture surface, even from clean wood that is not protected by varnishes or paints. In this case, it is extremely important to perform all actions as quickly as possible, so that the product does not dissolve the polish itself. This rule also applies to the processing of painted products.
Eraser. School erasers easily eliminate traces of adhesive tape and furniture, and you can preheat the contaminated areas with a hair dryer. It is extremely important to be attentive to the elimination of glue, so as not to damage the lacquered surfaces, preserving the attractive appearance of furnishings.

Removing scotch tape from household appliances
Very often people buy refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens and other types of household appliances, on which after transportation remain traces of tape from advertising stickers and adhesive pieces of protective film. Immediately note that reliable stores and salons of household appliances usually themselves offer buyers special liquids or pencils, with which the removal of adhesives is very quick and easy. If you are not offered them, you can use already known means:

acetone;
alcohol or vinegar;
glass cleaner.

These substances are also excellent for removing adhesive stains from glass, mirrors, ceramic surfaces and tiles.

The most effective remedy for removing scotch marks from household appliances is nail polish remover, which is available in almost every lady's purse or cosmetic bag. Gas stove, glass, tile - all this is easily cleaned with this means. If, in addition to the adhesive on the surface remained pieces of film, you can soak them with acetone for a few minutes, after which it is easy to remove the residue with a napkin. The only disadvantage of this means is the impossibility of application to tinted glass and careful use on metal surfaces.

To clean enameled appliances, you can use medical alcohol, vinegar or glass cleaner. Many housewives use this method to remove adhesive residue, as well as the adhesive tape itself. To do this, you need to apply the remedy to the spoiled areas of the surface of the devices, after which you also wipe the technique with a damp sponge or cloth. The disadvantages of the method include the difficulty of removing old stains, but this disadvantage is solved by heating the surface to be cleaned with a hair dryer for a few minutes.

Cleaning glass surfaces
Glass is a fairly resistant material, which allows it to be treated with chemicals and any other cleaning agents. Scotch tape from glass surfaces can be easily removed with vegetable oil, vinegar, alcohol, acetone or white spirit.

It is also easy to clean the glass from double-sided tape, which has been "intentionally" drying to the surface for a long time. To do this, you need to soak the adhesive layer by applying rag or cotton swabs, pre-moistened with acetone or alcohol. After holding the sponge for a few minutes, the glue is simply removed by simply wiping with a napkin. You can also use the same hair dryer to soften the glue.

Other cleaning products
Often people have the need to clean linoleum or other surfaces from traces of tape. If it was not possible to remove the glue with the help of improvised means (oil, eraser, alcohol, acetone), then in stores you can buy professional means that are specially designed for this purpose. There are also various cleaning liquids on the market, which are available in the assortment of many construction and car showrooms.

In addition, you can use a drill and a rubber nozzle. But this method is only effective for rough surfaces like metal, as soft parts can be easily damaged in case of lack of experience.
